Eagle Creek Exploration Systems 25″ Switchback Max

Eagle Creak - SwitchbackSeptember, 2008 – This fall, I decided to purchase a new roll-on luggage, one more designed with how I travel in mind. After some research, I found my answer, the Eagle Creak Exploration System Switchback Max. The Switchback was a two for one, designed in such a way where I can technically check one piece of luggage in, yet able to break up at the hotel in to two seperate pieces – the roll-on luggage and a back pack. But the advnatages of the Switchback don’t end there, the roll back has a hiden function, the ability to make it in to a backpack.

The first test of the new Switchback would come for when I had to travel to Orlando for nine days for work. I had ample room to put in everything I need for my trip. But it really wouldn’t be until I flew home to London for a week that the Switchback would really be tested.

I have found that my trips to Europe often involved the use of public transit to get from the airport to my hotel. Getting from London Heathrow to my hotel in Central London using both the Heathrow Express and London Underground was a great way to see how the back pack function of the roll-on would perform. It was easy to go from one to the other as circumstance permitted. I found that I would use the back pack function of the Switchback made getting up the stairs at Paddington Underground Station much easier. There are many portions of the London Underground that do not offer lifts nor escalators to go up and down from various platforms. Being able to thow one’s luggage on one’s back makes getting up the stairs sooo much easier.

Eagle Creak - Switchback Suspension SystemThe detachable day pack itself, came in really handy when I travel to Newcastle over night to see my brother. I was able to toss clothing, supplies and my laptop computer in to the back pack for my over night stay. I left the roll on, with the rest of my clothing for the rest of my vacation back at the hotel.

The detachable day pack allowed me to have some extra space, which came in handy for the return flight back to the States at the end of my vacation. I was able to put items that I had bought in to the extra space in the back pack and reattach the back pack to the roll-on, there by making it just one piece of luggage, not two, which is coming to be more important given the way the airlines are playing with the check-in luggage rules.

So far, I am very impressed with the Switchback. I highly recommend it for anyone planning to do a tour of Europe where you will be using public tranisit and rail to travel.
