15 April 2008 (Bruges, Belgium) – Hotel Fevery is a small, family owned and operated hotel in the northern part of Bruges. The hotel offers a total of ten rooms, spread out on three floors. The hotel provides breakfast from 08:00 to 10:00 each morning, with the guests allowed to choose between tea and coffee for hot beverages. The rooms are very clean and the bathrooms, very spacious. All guest rooms are cleaned each morning, normally between the hours of 10:30 and 12:30.

My experience there was amazing. The hotel is officially listed as being a 3 star hotel, but the service was what I would expect at a 5 star hotel. I arrived too early to check in as my flight landed very early in Brussels that morning. The hotel was kind enough to allow me to check in and to access my room. My room happened to be on the third floor and a featured a queen size bed. While the room did not offer much of a view, I was very grateful for being allowed to check in so early.

The room was very basic in many ways. You will not see any micro fridges in the room and bringing food back to store is prohibited. Nor will you find any tea or coffee maker in the room either. One other item you will not find and its use is prohibited, is an iron. So, you may want to plan to pack in such a way that your clothes are pressed in advance.

The room did have a small television mounted on the wall, with 22 channels to choose from at the end of a day’s roaming around Bruges. The channels offered included Belgian, Dutch, British, French and German television networks. You will not find Sky News nor CNN, which I found to be a great relief. Being from London, I was happy to see BBC1, BBC2 and ITV1. Plus it was interesting to see what was being broadcast on other national network stations around Europe in the evening, especially with regards to the news. Sorry, no American television channels.

The staff were very polite and very forthcoming in giving travel advice for getting around Bruges and Belgium. At breakfast, the staff paid attention to what type of tea I drank and by day 3, they would have it ready for me upon arrival in the breakfast room. It was a subtle touch, but one that I greatly appreciated.

Upon checking out, the hotel went the extra mile by arranging my taxi and even though the breakfast room wasn’t open yet, made me a cup of tea to have while I waited for my taxi to arrive. I was taken back by such service as I rarely experienced such attention at any hotel where I have stayed in Europe or in the US. But it was such small touches that made my stay at the Hotel Fevery memorable and amazing. I would highly recommend the hotel for anyone traveling to Bruges.
